Description
This is a replacement pressurestat for older Olympia Cremina espresso machines (pre 2000). The Mater XP-110 pressurestat comes with a custom J-Tube so that the Mater can mounted upright. The J-Tube has brazed brass fittings and is a direction installation on the Cremina. It uses the original machine Pstat wiring, and is bench tested, and set at 1 Bar MAX.
A Failing or Failed original Olympia Express Pressurestat is a real problem... on numerous levels. Generally what happens is that the Microswitch can get mushy, leading to a failed switch. The switch can be replaced, and though it's a marvel of engineering, the bespoke Pstat on the old Creminas cannot last forever. The springs get tired, and the ultimate, worst failure is a hole in the bellows, which we don't think can be successfully repaired. One solution to a bad OEM Pstat is to replace it with a Mater XP-110 on the original tube, but, it will be upside down, and can be prone to waterlogging and premature failure in this position. Also, there's not a lot of room between the boiler and the case when it's in that position. Our solution is a custom made J shaped 8mm copper tube, with fittings, that allows the pstat to be installed right side up, and in the back corner area where there's more room for it to live. Being lower in the case is also a cooler spot for it. In bench testing this setup we find the XP-110 has a smaller deadband than the original pstat. It cycles on at .9 Bar and off at 1 Bar, compared to the .7 - 1 Bar on the original.
