Once one is bitten by the coffee bug, you begin to notice if not focus on the variety of coffee paraphernalia which has been manufactured over the ages. In Mexico people's grandparents all had a pot of "peltre", not a spouted pot but an actual pot or pan of what we call graniteware, nice and mellowed brown inside for years of boiling coffee, in Italy it was Grandmother's Moka Pot, here in the US, Mom used the Percolator! Of course there are also coffee servers, urns, brewers, percolators, presses, combination mini kitchens, roasters, biggins, robots, gizmos and gadgets....all amazing stuff! The coffee makers we offer here, are all clean, shiny, and ready to use.
Of course, you can use them to make Perk Coffee, he extraction is at about the right temperature when compared to French Press, of course, the prejudice is against the recycling of the extracted coffee through the perk mechanism. Done properly, it can make good coffee, but the added advantage is the use of a percolator, without coffee in it, as a standing hot water kettle! Most are thermostatically controlled, and will turn off at about 190-195F, some run a little cooler, some a little hotter. Most have a warming feature, so, to have a standing supply of hot water at a pretty good temperature, for other forms of brewing, these make a very nice hot water kettle with a real retro vibe - AND you can't get any greener or more ecologically responsible than reusing an existing appliance!
