Tech Tip - Machine Group Cleaning

We all have our quirks. As we have made the vintage home lever machines both our business, and our pleasure, we are constantly using all of the different machines to learn as much as we can from each, and enjoy the espresso from each! But, at the end of the day, whichever of the machines we use, we want them to be clean, and ready to go for tomorrow, the next day, or next month. We have found the folding Silicone Bowl VERY handy in conjunction with the upside down squirt bottles to do a simple, effective, 30 second maintenance cleaning of the group at the end of the day. A very quick, simple procedure, no burnt fingers (the Silicone does not heat up), no splash or mess!

So, with all of our machines, we start with the bowl flat:

This allows room for rinsing the portafilter gasket.

There was more stuff in there than you thought! The red cap bottle contains a solution of dilute coffee cleaner (we use Joe Glo). The clear cap bottle is plain water.

Pop up the sides of the bowl, and flush the dispersion screen!

Nice large quantity lets you get everything good & clean! No coffee oil build up, no stuck coffee grinds, just a clean machine ready to go for tomorrow!

The silicone doesn't heat up at all - easy to carry the bowl to the sink, rinse it out, dry it off, and fold it flat for storage!
