We designed this tamper to address a central obsession with espresso preparation....proper fit in the PF basket. This tamper fits nicely in OUR baskets with close tolerance to the basket side, but YOUR basket is a different story. This tamper is just as it was removed from the lathe....a manufactured industrial object....it has not been buffed, dressed, or reduced in diameter in any way....we invite you to address your personal needs according to fit characteristics and finish requirements to your personal taste. If you need it a bit smaller in diameter it is quite simple to reduce the edge by buffing or abrasion with wet sandpaper ( a little at a time of course). Remember, you can always make it smaller but you can't make it bigger! With our Home Lever Espresso (HLE) machines we find that dosing, and leveling are most important for the best cup of espresso. Our design of this tamper makes both of these very easy to do. The flared grip allows for heavy tamping if that's what you prefer. The stainless steel is indestructible and ultimately cleanable. Also, one can feel free to customize the grip, for example, by applying a wrap of grip tape, as with a custom golf club which may be an improvement on the grip design for some, but as we enjoy the look and feel of industrial design stainless steel we enjoy it just as it is.
